Forever Young Production Automation with Active Components
DFG Priority Programme 1593 (In cooperation with HSU, Hamburg)
Abstract
The FYPA²C project is part of the priority research program of the German Research Council (DFG) "Design for Future" which aims at developing fundamentally new software engineering approaches for long living software systems that continuously retain and improve their quality and functionalities due to evolution and adaptation.
In this research program the focus of our research project FYPA²C is to develop a comprehensive approach that efficiently addresses software degeneration, caused e.g. by changing usage conditions or ad-hoc modifications not reflected in the latest software specifications. For this purpose an anti-aging-cycle is invented, which steadily harmonizes specification, implementation and productive use of long-living software systems at runtime. In order to fulfil this goal our research includes a concept for an explicit specification of requirements on a component level, which are monitored via test scenarios and continuously validated in simulation runs. An additional goal of our work is to overcome the occurring gap between explicit specification and implicit usage by learning relevant runtime behaviour of participating components. As a result the test coverage of component and system requirement specifications can be increased by the availability of observed runtime production knowledge. As a field of application the research project takes place in the domain of production systems which are often used over decades and must frequently change for product variants or production refinements.
Therefore, our project aims at developing a comprehensive meta model which allows to efficiently model (non-)functional requirements and technical production processes as well as control these processes with our developed component based system. Thus long living automation systems can be managed in conformity with its requirements and the long-term productivity of manufacturing plants can be retained.
