Doctoral Mentoring

MATES 2009 will include a doctoral mentoring program, aimed at PhD students in early as well as advanced stages of their research. This program will provide an opportunity for students to interact closely with established researchers in their fields, to receive feedback on their work and to get advice on managing their careers.

It will:

  • match each student with an established researcher who will act as a mentor.
  • allow students an opportunity to present their work to a friendly audience of other students, as well as mentors.
  • provide students with contacts and networking opportunities.
MATES will intentionally start its program with the doctoral mentoring session for students at Wednesday, 9th September from 9 till 11 o'clock. In this slot each applicant will get an opportunity to present his ongoing Ph.D. work and discuss her/his ideas with his mentor as well as other researchers from the audience. After the official part of the doctoral mentoring session the mentors and mentees have the chance further elaborate on the thesis topics at the conference breaks. The mentors are also meant to be contact persons for the students helping them to build up a personal network of researchers with similar interests.

The Ph.D. call is now open.
Any applicant is requested to send a 2-3 page thesis abstract till September 1st at latest to:
mates2009@easychair.org

Please note that Ph.D. students can attend MATES at substantially reduced fees and get access to all parallel running events.
