Foundation for the solid development of multi-agent system is the existence of a methodology to follow. A sound methodology should support the all development steps beginning at the requirements analysis and ending in the deployment and testing phase. The single steps support the developer with different methods to capture its design artifacts. The methodology and the methods itself should be supported with interoperable tools, that allow easy transfer of different artifacts. Tools should assist the developer in modelling, implementing and testing a multi-agent system.

All of the above mentioned items are directly or indirectly constrained or influenced by the existing agent standards and architectures.
